Grant's Tomb 3/4 Race March 15, 2008

It was great to be racing with so many teammates in the field and on the sidelines. Radical Media dominated the race from start to finish. We put in some beautiful attacks and had every attempted attack by others immediately covered.
The race was safe until the last lap. After hearing the lap bell ring, I allowed a bit of space between myself and the riders ahead of me. All of sudden a women went down and took a couple riders with her. I couldn't understand why. Perhaps she hit a grate or something?? Anyhow, for a moment I thought I would go down, but took a deep breath and stayed calm. Next thing I knew I was still upright and rolling between two front wheels that were still spinning. I was safe! Phew. Funny how it all seemed to happen in slow motion.
I then jumped on a woman's wheel who seemed determine to win. I wasn't sure if the field was with us or not, so I just focused on staying on her wheel. After taking the final sweeping turn, I realized the pack was with us and I was second wheel. Heidi from CC rode up next to me and I remember debating whether to stay where I was or get on her wheel. I also feared Heidi would move over and block me in. So I powered between the 2 women and heard my couch yell, "Go now Maria". So I went as hard as I could. I figured at any moment someone would nip me at the line, so I continued to give it everything I had until I was way past the line. Ouch. Sprinting hurts, but it's worth it when it's for a win.
Radical Media took 4 top 10's in the women's 3/4 field! Amazing.
And a quick note about the P123 race. I did this race to support Maggie in any way that I could. I was so tired from the earlier race, that that support turned out only to be moral support. I did manage to get up to the front a couple times and let Maggie know I was there for her, but I kept falling back because my legs were toast. But luckily for Radical Media, Maggie didn't need any help at all. She took that final sprint all on her own! Nice win Maggie!!
