CRCA Race- Central Park March29, 2008
The women's field was a good size today. My goal today was to stay at the front and work, not sit in. AMM attacked at the end of the first lap and I went with her. The break didn't last very long. Then about a lap and a half later she attacked on Harlem Hill. It was a struggle for me to catch her since I wasn't in the best position, but I managed to kick it and get on her wheel. BK joined us but was gassed and unable to help out in the rotation. She kept allowing a gap to form to AMM's wheel which I would have to bridge and then take my turn pulling. (exhausting!) She slowed us down and we were caught. Turns out one of her rookie teammates was up front picking up the pace to catch us, too. Stupid! With 3 of the larger teams represented in the breakaway, we should have been able to get away.
The last 1/5 lap AMM started to pull away. I should have jumped on her wheel but was so tired that I couldn't get it. So I took lots of wind and hoped that Elena or Ashley were on my wheel. Elena was! :) I thought the field would catch us at the line, so I was kind of waiting for a wheel to jump on as it passed. Stupid! I should have just gone and not thought about it. Lesson learned. Do more, think a bit less. At least I helped Elena a bit and she took 3rd. I took 4th. Two Raddies in the top 5, not too bad!
