Empire State Games- Day #3, July 2007

CRITERIUM

I was dreading the crit. The sky looked grey and there was a chance of showers. Since my crash on oil earlier in the week during team practice, I was terrified of slipping and all of the white line in the turns weren't helping.

The pace was fast from the start and a few girls got away. Beth was up the road and Martha and I were in the chase group. My "fixed" wheel began to vibrate again, but I was determined to just finish. On the last lap we got lapped by the 3 women off the front. I have never been lapped, so this was a first.

I sprinted at the end and came in 5th or 6th, but since it was a points race, I believe I ended up in 9th and Martha in 10th. Beth won the crit, so we got lots of points and our team's first gold medal. Don't believe Beth when she says she can't sprint. I saw a few beauties!

In the men's field, one of our NY guys got the bronze. 2 more medals for NYC!
