Housatonic Road Race PRO123 June 2007

Housatonic = Pain.

It was such hard work! The first lap I hung on, as hard as it was. It seemed that every hill we lost more and more women. On the second lap, the girls up front just attacked on the climbs. I held on for most of the climbing, but then fell off for one. Cecelia fell off too, so we worked together to get back on and after a few minutes, we were right back with the front group. I have never worked so hard and wanted to quit so bad. It was hot and brutal.

Finally we were almost done, just had to do the final climb. I passed a few women and did what I could to get up the hill to the finish line. It's a longish finish climb, but not too steep....just steep in parts and then it flattens out. I did my best and was so relieved when it was over. Our groupof 20 or so really broke up on the final climb to the line. I was toward the back, but I felt good that I hung in there. Of course Target Training won. I came in 15th place for the pro 123s but had I done the 35 and over, I would have gotten 4th. Next year!
